Paisley Par-Tay

(from top-left to bottom-right) floo, flux, opus, and ennies.
plain Jane
I didn't have school today (teacher workday), so I was able to complete my submission to the Diva's Weekly Challenge #142: "Comfort/Danger Zone" early in the week. The goal was to push our boundaries by doing something that we usually shy away from. I don't usually feel comfortable using organic shapespaisleys, teardrops, curlicuesso I used tangles with those elements and now feel much less intimidated by them. I found it interesting that each of the tangles has the same basic motif and format as another. Opus and flux branch from a stem while floo and ennies branch from a border; opus and floo use a spiral while flux and ennies use teardrops.

For shading I gravitated towards watercolor pencils to amp-up the volume. Not having a paintbrush handy, I actually used bobby pins to add the water and smooth out the color! After I had finished the adding pigment, I followed my mom's advice and weighted the rounded end of the flux-bulbs.

    1. Yeah, I tend to be the opposite of everyone else. I struggle with these kind of tangles but am comfortable with mooka and grid tangles.

    2. That is exactly the way I am. Organic tangles just give me such a fit! Don't get me wrong, I can draw flowers & leaves & trees like a champ - but when it comes to tangling with those things, it's just sooooo hard!

OH- Most importantly, your tile is gorgeous!

  3. Caroline, I like the color you added to the plain Jane! You are very good at blending your tangles, the way one tangle flows into another one is so perfect!

  4. Nice job with this. I really like the color you added. It makes everything stand out. Hope you continue with this so it becomes a part of your comfort zone. I struggled with the organic tangles as well and at times still do. I just have to remind myself that it will not get any better if I do not try them.

  8. Lovely! Opus is one that I would consider in my own danger zone - you've done a really pretty one here! I love the way you've used your colour "behind"!

  9. Thank you all for the support! One thing I notice about this tile is that it is more like my mom's style with the bold organic lines. I am using these tangles more now because they don't scare me anymore.
